“Transitions in Time” by Barek, Gigi Gordes, Júlia Both, & Chuck Mayfield

17 February 2018

You asked for more shows in Melbourne, so here you go, opening next Friday the 23rd of February from 6pm til late, at the beautiful Lulu Café & Gallery, 506 Queensberry Street in North Melbourne.  Transitions in Time is on display for three weeks, if you can’t make the opening.

Recent Q Bank Gallery artists-in-residence Chuck Mayfield, Júlia Both, Barek and Gigi Gordes present “Transitions in Time”. Libations provided by the delicious La Sirène Brewing.

Barek is a Melbourne based urban artist. He utilises wheat-pasting, stickers and murals to bring life to forgotten places. His work can be seen locally, interstate and around the world both on the street, in galleries and private collections.

Gigi is a painter and sculptor from Melbourne who brings life to her characters through the use of paint, and dark humour. Gigi explores individualism and idiosyncrasies through a range of mediums, both outdoors and in the studio. You can find her pieces in galleries and on the streets of Melbourne.

Júlia Both is a visual sorceress working mainly through painting and drawing. Her art combines superficial beauty and deep symbolism to share intimate stories and ideas about our place in the cosmos. Ranging in scale from huge public murals to tiny illustrations, her work draws from biology, astronomy and our collective dreams.

Chuck Mayfield is an Australian artist paying tribute to the bizarre and the beautiful. Predominantly creating large scale murals, canvas pieces, and pencil sketches, his work displays a balance of unusual elements, combining nature, graffiti, modern life, & the mystical.

"One small step," the title of the show, refers to the famous words uttered in 1969 by Neil Armstrong when he was the first human to make contact with the Moon's surface. Like Armstrong, Christopher and Conrad journeyed far and created works on what was once a very lunar-like surface due to mining (now coming back to life).
